PROJECT SUMMARY -
For this class project, my team and I were tasked with creating an add-on for a mobile application.
MY IDEA BEHIND IT -
Personally, I like using Linkedin but when applying for jobs, I never know if recruiter's look at my portfolio. I wanted to create a streamlined way for recruiters to see your portfolio along side your job experience.

Project Overview:
BUSINESS GOALS -
OUR GOALS -
1) Create for Linkedin a portfolio feature, creatives will actually want to use
2) Design personalized profile for creatives so they can better tell their artistic story
Create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce.
1) Create for Linkedin a portfolio feature, creatives will actually want to use
2) Design personalized profile for creatives so they can better tell their artistic story
FOR CREATIVES -
"What feature is most important to you on your portfolio website?"
"What would you like to showcase on LinkedIn that you’re not able to currently? And why?"
"What kinds of things do you do stand out to recruiters on your own portfolio?"
Discover
To begin, our team decided we should interview our two main users, creatives who use Linkedin and recruiters. We brainstormed together what questions were best to ask each group. For creatives, we focused our questions on their overall portfolio experience and how would they like to improve Linkedin. For the recruiters we focused our questions on what they specifically do on Linkedin and what was important to them when looking at candidates.
I spoke to a total of six people.
FOR RECRUITERS -
"What on portfolios stand out to you when looking at a creative’s profile?"
"What do you look for when reviewing a portfolio?"
"What has been your experience with using Linkedin? And why?"
Linkedin does not feel creative enough
“Not built for creatives..feels boxy like a Microsoft product”
Portfolios needs to show visual storytelling
Content is most important
Main Takeaways:
Define
After our interviews we went into Maze and built affinity maps to reflect the main insights.
Redefine Goals:
1) Design a profile for creatives that they can more easily express artistic expression and personalize
2) Create a search function in the context of creative tools and fields
After redefining our goals for this project, I set out to create user personas for our creative user as well as our recruiter.
WHO ARE OUR COMPETITORS?
My team and I decided to check out the competition. We decided to compare Linkedin to three other portfolio platforms on the market and see what each has to offer. We looked at Dribble, Behance mobile and Behance desktop.
Competitive Analysis by Yushi and Anthony
Problem Statement:
LinkedIn does not currently allow Indigo to create a dynamic and visually accessible profile to tell a meaningful story about their work experience and design projects. This is a problem because recruiters, like Cerulean, want to see meaningful content and visual storytelling to accompany a list of achievements and experiences.

WIREFRAMES:
I was ready to start sketching. Thanks to my group mate Yushi, who created a Design System, I could easily reference what the Linkedin standard was for buttons, typefaces and icons. Additionally after researching the application and looking at our competitors Dribble and Behance, I started sketching buttons and icons that would help a designer build their personalized portfolio.

Collaboration Process:
MY DESIGN (1) -
This is my original design for Indigo's portfolio profile. A user mentioned it was too boxy so I wanted it to feel very fluid with the buttons and all of the rounded shapes. I added a carousel of pictures for each portfolio project, colorful navigation buttons and a featured projects page.
YUSHI'S DESIGN (2)
Yushi looked over my design and realized it didn't reflect back on Linkedin. It was creative but was too far from the Linkedin aesthetic. Yushi took my designs then redesigned them based on the Linkedin look.
COLLABORATIVE DESIGN (3) -
Yushi and I were discussed which design to choose. I advocated for my user, they wanted to get away from the Linkedin standard. So Yushi and I collaborated and redesigned together in Figma the third option. It used a lot of the standard Linkedin buttons but had more fluid shapes and we kept the featured project page.

USABILITY TESTING:
My team and I conducted three usability tests in person and then seven more on Maze.co.
Usability Testing:
Main Takeaways:
-
User’s couldn’t find where to “add project” on Indigo’s profile
-
button was too small, we need to add a plus button in order for it to be clear for users
-
User’s were confused by “edit” symbol on dashboard
-
added "Portfolio Mode On" so would be clearer to users they are in edit mode

NEXT STEPS:
Although my team and I were successful during our usability testing we still wanted to implement these ideas going forward:
Discover if creatives wanted more flexibility with customizing their profile, such as changing colors or whether that would fit with the Linkedin aesthetic
Design a flow of looking at a project, what details you would see to get a sense of visual storytelling
Consult with a developer how to implement our feature
